coimh

Prepositive syllable which takes the place of the prefix comh-, in words which, having been originally compounds, with a small vowel in the first syllable of the second element, are now accented on the first element and no longer written with a hyphen as, comh-lìon, now written coimhlion. Coimh should never be used as a compound. When coimh is used, it signifies that the compound has become consolidated into a simple word [This rule is not consistently observed in most Gaelic Dictionaries, so many words given in them as beginning with comh, will be found here under comh-].
