            duirgh, sm Handline for fishing, as applied to the whole arrangement by means of which a piece of wire or whalebone is used to connect the lines to which the hooks are attached with the line held in the hand. †2 Mason's line. [also spelt dorbh, dorga, dro, drobha and drogha].
 Parts of a Handline:1 Sreang. In Gairloch, streang, part of line held in the hand. 2 Bodag, loop of string at each end of meigh.
 3 Meigh, piece of strong wire.
 4 Clach-luaidhe, lead.
 5 Cas-ghaoisid, part of line attached to hook, usually in two parts, each called snòthd.
 6 Dubhan, hook.
 7 Snaim, snaime-gaoisid, knot.
 8 Snàthgaladh, the thread wound round the cas-ghaoisid and dubhan, to attach the latter to the hair line.
 9 Clàrag, square frame, on which line is wound.
 10 Cròcan, or gòbhlag, fork-shaped twig, barked or otherwise, for the same purpose. When neither frame nor twig is used, the line is hanked and called conn.
