Parts of a kiln:

10. Poll-suathaidh, (AF) sm The rubbing-pool of a kiln. A slab 3 feet in height and 4 inches thick, where dried corn was trodden out to separate the “bristles” from the corn.
11. Sinridean, (AF) spl or sìrnearan (AF) spl Pieces of wood placed across the slugan (see below).
12. Slugan, sm (AF) Opening of the kiln whereon the corn to be dried is laid.
13. Stràbhag, sf diminutive of stràbh, straw. Straw laid on wood under the grain.
14. Surrag, sf The eye or vent of a kiln.
15. Tìoradh, sm Drying on a kiln.
16. Uchd-làr, s The floor of a kiln round the eye.
