sm John MacFadyen, author of Sgeulaiche nan Caol, says erroneously translated “cuttlefish” by Gaelic dictionaries, instead of “squid, or ink fish.” The latter, although belonging to the same family, has little or no resemblance to the former, except that it has feelers and can squirt black liquid. It is about a foot long, and has one jointless bone not unlike a shoehorn in shape.
