bàrr-deubhaidh
sm MacLeod & Dewar give this as meaning battlement in the Gaelic-English section, but give it as a word for a terrace in the English-Gaelic section. As McL&D also give barr'-bhalla as meaning bartizan in the Gaelic-English section and as another word for terrace in the English - Gaelic section, they seem to equate terrace with battlement. In the Gaelic-English section, they give deubhadh, -aidh, sm, see dèabhadh, which means drying or draining as its first meanings. Does bàrr-deubhaidh, therefore, mean “the top drying place?” [Ed.]
